Chongqing is a modern city, with an ancient history spanning more than 3,000 years. It is the nation's fourth municipality after Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin. It encompasses within its borders, a great wealth of water reserves, mineral resources, dense forests and abundant flora and fauna. Being the focal point of the unique Three Gorges tourist industry, Chongqing is a tourist attraction as well as being a commercial city.

Situated in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River - at the confluence of Yangtze River and Jialing River, in southwest China, Chongqing is a port city with the largest area and population in China. Guangzhou located at the north of the Pearl River delta, is an important trading center as well as a busty port and the capital city of the province of Guangdong. The city has an area of over 16,000 square kilometers and a population of 6.7 million.

The climate of Guangzhou is sub-tropical. The average year-round temperature is 22C. August is the hottest month, with an average temperature of 28C. January is the coldest month, with an average of 13C. The rainy season falls between April and August. Average annual rainfall is 1,720 mm.

Like Athens of Greece and Rome of Italy, Guangzhou also has history of more then 2,8000 years.

There are a lot of interesting legends concerning its past. One of the beautiful stories which gives the city its name Goat Town says that five gods riding on five goats brought the first grain to the city. So, it is also known as the City of Five Goats. Besides tales and stories, here and there stand monuments of the city's democratic and revolutionary past. The monument to the Anti British struggle at San Yuan Li is in remembrance of the 1841 uprising against a British invading force. The Huang Hua Gang Park keeps alive the spirit of the 72 martyrs killed in an 1911 uprising against the Manchu dynasty. The National Peasant Movement Institute is the former cadre-training school founded and run by Mao Zedong and Zhou En Lai in 1925-1926. The Guangzhou Memorial Garden is in memory of those who lost their lives during the Communist Uprising in 1927.

The scenery of Guilin has been called the finest under heaven. Situated in the northeast of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Guilin City is South China's shining pearl , with verdant mountains , elegant waters , magnificent crags and fantastic caverns. Guilin has a history of more than 2,000 years. In the 6th year of Yuanding During the reign of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty (111 BC), Guilin was a county, called Shi An County, and from the Song Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, it was the political, economic and cultural centre of Guangxi. In 1921,the North Expeditionary Army led by Sun Zhongshan (Dr. Sun Yat-sen) joined forces In Guilin, and the headquarters was sited in the Royal Palace at the foot Of the Solitary Beauty Peak. The city acquired its present name in the year of 1940. Belonging to the subtropical region, Guilin enjoys a Mild climate with sufficient rainfall. Its yearly average temperature is 18.8'C, and the hottest month, August, has an average temperature of 28'C, while the coldest months, which are January and February are 8'C on the average. Du Fu,a very famous poet of Tang Dynasty so said of its climate: "When it is scorching hot everywhere in the Five Ridges, only Guilin has temperate weather." Guilin was originally a vast expanse of sea until about one hundred and ninety million years ago, when, owing to the movement of the earth crust, the whole area rose and became land. The Limestone, weathered and eroded by water, became today's fantastic stone forests, peaks, underground streams and caves, thus giving unique features to Guilin's scenery.

Haikou the capital city Hainan Province. Haikou lies on the Binhai plain in the north of Hainan Island. It has a tropical monsoon climate with an annual average temperature of 23.6 degree Celsius. Annual rainfall averages 1,650 millimeters. The Nandu River flows through the east part of Haikou before emptying into the sea. Haikou is rich in aquatic resources. Haikou is one of the biggest tinned food producers in China. Its industries also include food processing, beverages, rubber, electronic, textiles, chemical fibers, pharmaceuticals, hide, and power. Beverage, chemical fiber, and hide industries are the mainstay. The chief farm products of Haikou are rice, sugarcane, vegetables, peanuts, fruit, and aquatic products. Kunming located at the heart of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, is the capital of Yunnan Province, the provincial centre of politics, economy, culture and science, the hub of communications and important passageway leading to Southeastern Asian countries. Encircled by mountains and adjoining the highland Dianchi Lake in the south, Kunming boasts picturesque landscapes. It deprives of scorching summer and freezing winter, with a yearly mean temperature of 15.1 centigrade, average rainfall of 1,000 mm and downtown altitude of 1,891 metres. Flowers bloom in a riot of colour and plants flourish all year round, thus it is given the name of "Spring City". Kunming is one of the well-known cities of history and culture announced by the state due to its long-standing history and numerous places of historic interest. Nanjing is the capital of Jiangsu province and Nanjing is one of the six ancient capitals of China, situated at the south bank of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Various dynasties have made Nanjing their base. The most famous of these periods is when Nanjing was the capital of China; during the Ming Dynasty between 1368 and 1644 and the establishment of the People's Republic of China in the early 20th Century. Many of the city's historical sites are date back to these periods and Sun Yatsen's Mausoleum and the Ming Tombs are examples of the wealth of culture existing in this ancient city. Like many Chinese cities however, the charm of this place is being threatened. The developers have moved in and the old streets and classical buildings are being torn apart to make way for expressways and skyscrapers. For the time being, Nanjing remains a charming city to spend a few days in, absorbing some history and relaxing in the laid back atmosphere before it disappears altogether.

Nanning has a history of more than 1,600 years. It was named Yongzhou, or Yong for short in the Tang Dynasty; Yongning prefecture in the Song Dynasty, Yongzhou headquarters in Yuan dynasty; Nanning prefecture in Ming and Qing Dynasties and Nanning county after the revolution of 1911. It did not acquire the present name until 1949. Nanning, with a glorious tradition, is remembered as a heroic city in the minds of Chinese people. For thousands of years, the city has undergone countless tests in battle. In the old days, Su Jian, head officer of this region in Song Dynasty, once led the army and people throughout Yongzhou City to resist the Vietnamese aggressors, who were waging war against China. In modern times, the famous generals Liu Yongfu and Feng Zicai bravely safeguarded the region against French aggressors in a bid to defend their homeland. Moreover, the city has also witnessed glorious deeds by locals as following: the 1911 Revolution, the May 4th Movement in 1919, dispatching troops to aid the Northern Expeditionary Armies, the founding of the Seventh and Eighth Armies of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, the Baise Uprising paving the way for establishing the Zuojiang and Youjiang revolutionary bases, the Longzhou Uprising and the bloody Kunlunguan Campaign which gave a heavy blow to the Japanese aggressors. The local people have added an illustrious chapter to the history of defending the homeland and pursuing social progress by safeguarding the South Gate of the motherland and participating in the socialist construction of New China.

Ningbo located in the middle of China's coastline and the southeast flank of the Yangtze River Delta, is a beautiful port city with rich cultural heritage and abundant resource. It is the birthplace of the 'Hemudu Culture' dating back 7,000 years. Since the Tang & Song Dynasties (618-1279), Ningbo has always been an important foreign trading port in China. Qingdao is a beautiful seaside city on the southern coast of the Shandong Peninsula bordering on the Yellow Sea and the Jiaozhou Bay. The city lies on undulating hills with luxuriantly green trees and buildings noted for their attractive architectural styles. The red colour of the tiled roves, green colour of the trees thrills and blue of the sea contrast beautifully. All this along with its beautiful climate, make the city well-known as a summer and health resort. The main mineral deposits of Qingdao are graphite, gold, granite, turquoise, and crystal. It is also rich in sea resources, including fish, and salt. The chief farm products are wheat, peanuts, and fruit. Qingdao is one of the most important textile industry centers in China, and also a large industrial producer, concentrating on diesel locomotives, chemical products, rubber, electric appliances, machinery, and handcraft. Sanya is an important political, economic, cultural and foreign trade port in the Southern part of Hainan, China, and also a famous coastal tourist city filled with tropical landscapes and local customs. Since Sanya is situated in the southernmost part of China, she has been called "the remotest cape of the earth" since ancient time. The region of Sanya has a long history of human development. There were discoveries of cultural relics of the Old Stone Age. Ancient Persian tombs were found along the coast. Sanya region was called Ahuya Prefecture in the western Han dynasty, later changed to Linzhen Prefecture in the Sui Dynasty, Zhen Zhou in the Tang dynasty, Ya Zhou in the Song Dynasty, Ya County in 1920 and Sanya City in 1984.

Shanghai, called "Hu" for short, is a bustling metropolis located at the mouth of the Yangtze River. Connected with Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces in the west, the city is exposed to the East China Sea in the east. With a total area of 6,341 square kilometers and a population of more than 13 million, Shanghai takes its place among the world's biggest, most booming urban areas. However, spring and autumn, with their moderate temperate, are the best times to visit Shanghai. While the city epitomizes modern, urban China, its history is one of its most intriguing features. Shenzhen is located in the mid-southern coastline of China Guangdong province. It is close by Tai Ya Bay in the east, near the mouth of Zhujiang river in the west and connecting with Hong Kong on it's the south. It is consisted of the Special Economic Zone and Baoan county. Shenzhen Dapeng Gulf in the east, the mouth of the Pearl River to the west, Wutong Mountain and Yangtai Mountain ranges to the north, and New Territory of HongKong to the south. It, in topography consists of mountains, hilly lands as well as plains along the sea coast, and has a south sub-tropical marine climate with an annual average temperature of 22.4 degree Celsius, rainfall of 1940 millimeters, and a frost-free period of 350 days. Its main mineral deposits comprise granites, lime stones, freshwater sands and clay etc. Shenzhen lies along mountainsides and seacoast, endowed with vast sea and shore of soft sands. Tianjin's location in the middle of North China's gold coast was a natural setting to be developed as a trading port. Today Tianjin has China's largest container wharf and ships from every country of the world use its facilities. Major domestic and international airlines serve the coastal international airport. Tianjin also is a very important railway junction terminal for the two main lines: Tianjin to Shandong and Tianjin to Shanghai. A nice and relaxing way to travel along the gold coast is by train. You can obtain the train ticket from your hotel concierge. You can also rent a car and explore the city outskirts, still an almost unknown area to most foreign visitors. Tianjin lies in a temperate zone and it enjoys four distinct seasons a year. The average yearly temperate is only 13C with hot summers (in July the temperature can be higher that 26C) and freezing temperatures in January. The best periods to visit Tianjin are spring and autumn when pleasant temperatures can be expected. Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province, is China's important industrial base. It's located in a flat and low-lying land of an alluvial plain, and crisscross with rivers and streams along with numerous lakes and ports. Wuhan is at the confluence of the Yangtze River and the Hanshui River. It has the sub-tropical climate with an annual average temperature of 16.3 degree Celsius, rainfall of 1,260 millimeters, and a frost-free period of 253 days. It abounds in agricultural and aquatic resources. Its minerals include coal, iron, limestone, copper, phosphorus and asbestos. Iron and steel, machinery and textiles are Wuhan's three major prop-ups in industry. Its foodstuff, chemical and papermaking industries hold an important position in China. Wuhan has a well-developed agriculture, and abounds in cotton, rape seeds, sesame seeds, peanuts, lotus roots, poultry, eggs etc. and is listed as a key base for production of commodity grains and freshwater fish. Wuhan is a China's inland key commercial center and the place of concentration and distribution for goods and materials, and Hankou in particular, is renowned for its flourishing commerce. It's also a famous Chinese historical and cultural city. There are quite a lot beautiful mountains, rivers and lakes. Its best-known sceneries include East Lake scenic area, yellow Crane Tower and Shengxiang Pagoda etc. Wuhan has embarked on the road of building itself into the largest Chinese inland economic, financial and trade center, a key industrial and commercial port linking China's inland markets with the economic sphere of South-East Asia, North-East Asia and Middle Asia, and world markets, as well as an international metropolis.

Wuxi lies to the north of Thai Lake, in Jiangsu province. It is one of the important industrial areas in China. The county industry in Wuxi is the most developing area in China. Wuxi is the main center of cotton textiles and one of the important bases of machine and electron industry. The pottery production of Yixing is famous both in China and abroad. Dingshu Town is the main producing area and it is called the city of pottery. The agriculture is developing, there is rice, fresh-water fish, cocoon, fruits and so on. It is the famous land of fish and rice in our country. Wuxi is one of the important hubs of water transport and land transport in Jiangnan area. The railway, inland water transport and highway are developed. Also the airplanes here can take you to Beijing and some other cities. Thai Lake scenery area that crosses Wuxi and Suzhou is one of the important places of interest in China. Thai Lake is the third biggest fresh lake in China, there are many islands in the lake, and the scene is very beautiful. In addition, there are some other places of interest, such as Yunv Pool in Yixing, Dongpo Hall, Xingguo Tower in Jiangyin, Xuxiake memorial hall and so on.

Xiamen, which is actually an island linked to the mainland by a long causeway of road and railway, is, like Shenzhen, a Special Economic Zone. Xiamen is flush with Taiwanese investment. The local dialect, known as minnanyu, is nearly identical to the dialect spoken in Taiwan, and the nearest Taiwanese-controlled islands - Matsu and Quemoy (Kinmen) - are just a couple of kilometers (a mile, or so) off shore from Xiamen. Historically, Xiamen was established as a major seaport in the Ming Dynasty, in the seventeenth century to stem the southward influence of the Manchu Qing dynasty and restore the Ming rule. Xiamen was also an unofficial trading depot, doing a thriving under-the-counter business in silks with the Portuguese, Spanish and Dutch, until a British naval force stormed ashore after their victory in the first Opium War in 1841 and opened it up as a full Treaty Port. There is evidence today of its role as an international settlement in the surviving colonial architecture of parts of its skyline.

Zhuhai lies in the southern part in Guangdong province. It is not only the economical peculiar area but also the important port. Zhuhai located at the southern edge of the Zhujiang Delta. In Zhuhai, there is plain, hilly land and terrace area. Along the coast, there are 140 islands, so we call here "Islands City" The western area is covered by a lot of rivers. It is the maritime monsoon climate in the south inferior torrid zone. The average temperature is 22.4 degree Celsius, and the average precipitation is 1,990mm. The black period can last 360 days. About the mineral resources, mainly, there is quartz sand, granite and building sand. Nearby, the Wanshan Fishery is one of the biggest in Guangdong. Major industries include electronic, communication apparatus, food, chemical industry and textile. And also there is machine, cloth-making, sewing, leather and metallurgical industry. Among them, the products of electronic, communication apparatus, drink and leather goods occupy important positions in China. The foreign capital companies are the most important part of the industry value. In agriculture, mainly, there is rice, sugarcane, tobacco, peanut, fruit, flax, vegetable and aquatic product, etc. The highway and water transport are both convenient. The big ships can be moored here. And Zhuhai and nearly 10 cities in China are open to navigation. It is the most important port for the imports and exports, it is also the important base of rear-service supply for the Nanhai Oil field. The gulf here is very beautiful. It is full of wonderful mountains, and the climate here is very comfortable. There are lots of places of interest or playground, such as Xiangzhou Gulf, Shuigangtou, Jiuzhoucheng, Seaside Park, Tangjia Port, Lianquan Cave, the International Golf Court and so on. The traditional specialties are crab, lobster, oyster, squid, fruit and flowers.
