Founded by Peter the Great in 1703 as a "window on Europe", Saint Petersburg casts its own unique spell over visitors from its sparkling spring through the sunny summer and the endless twilight of the White Nights, the brilliant golden sun of autumn, and into the crisp and brittle brightness of a St. Petersburg winter. Saint Petersburg is located in Northwestern Russia on the banks of the Neva River. It is the second largest city in Russia and one of largest city of Europe. Having a lot of canals and bridges it is nicknamed the "Venice of the North".

Weather in Saint Petersburg is an unpleasant thing for visitors. The average annual temperature in St Petersburg is +5.4 °C (42 °F).Spring comes from early April with the snow starting to melt. Cold rainy days might happen in spring but it might be getting warm from mid-May.In summer, the temperature is ranging from +15 °C to +30 °C (+59 °F to +86 °F) with July is the hottest months. The sunny day The average amount of sunny day is 75 days a year during summer time. White Nights period starts from the end of May to the beginning of July with the daylight takes up to 18 hours and 53 minutes.Autumn begins in mid-September and end in mid-December from warm days to chilly days with average temperature 11.8 °C and 4.9 °C (53.25 °F and 40.85 °F)Winters are cold with the average temperature is about -13 °C to -12 °C (9 °F to 10 °F). Sometime it dips lower till -20 °C (-4 °F).

It is advised to always keep an umbrella and a windproof jacket whenever you travel to Saint Petersburg. Visitors also have to consider comfortable footwear since there is a lot of walking.
